The pelvic urethra of female (PLUR) (syn: cranial urethra, internal urethra) (TS:23-TS:28) is part of urethra of female. Cranially joined to the bladder and caudally joined to the phallic urethra of female (TS:23-TS:27) which becomes the clitoral urethra (TS:28). Comprised of epithelium (subdivided into 3 layers), mesenchymal layer (subdivided into lamina propria, muscularis mucosa, submucosa (TS:25-28) and also contains mesenchymal pad of female (TS:25-TS:27)), muscle layer and adventitia. Also contains vasculature and nerve of pelvic urethra of female, and neural crest derivative of pelvic urethra of female (TS:25-TS:27). Also contains ventral epithelial bud of female and female urethral gland bud (TS:24-TS:26), which become urethral gland of female pelvic urethra (TS:27), which develop from the epithelium of pelvic urethra of female. The pelvic urethra of female (TS:28) also contains a rhabdosphincter as part of the muscle layer of pelvic uretha of female. In the TS:28 male, the rhabdophincter is part of the prostatic urethra.
