OBSOLETE. The sequence of enzymatic reactions resulting in the addition of a cap to the 5' end of a nascent snRNA transcript. Source: GOC:mah
Comment
This term was made obsolete because it has been replaced with a more specific term to describe cap hypermethylation. All RNA polymerase II transcripts receive a 7-methyl-G cap. Then for (at least) small nuclear RNAs (snRNAs) and small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs), the 7-methyl-G cap is hypermethylated to become a 2,2,7-trimethylguanosine (TMG) cap.
