Definition
A post-transcriptional gene silencing pathway mediated by the action of small regulatory non-coding RNAs (sRNAs). sRNAs are 20-500 nucleotides in length and found in bacteria. Source: PMID:2468565, PMID:33963446, PMID:12460531
Comment
It is postulated that there 3 mechanisms of sRNA-mediated gene silencing: (i) translation inhibition, (ii) RNA destabilization, and (iii) transcription termination loop formation (as this is common when looking at riboswitches). sRNA mediated gene silencing is sometimes referred to as 'regulation of riboswitch'.
