Synonyms
ER membrane protein complex, endoplasmic reticulum membrane protein complex
Alternate IDs

Definition
A transmembrane protein complex located in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) involved in the insertion of newly synthesized proteins in the membrane of the ER. In S. cerevisiae, it has six members: EMC1, EMC2, AIM27, EMC4, KRE27, and EMC6. Source: PMID:30415835, PMID:29242231, PMID:32459176
Comment
Note that this complex used to be thought to be involved in ER-mitochondrial membrane tethering, which is required to facilitate lipid transfer from the ER to the mitochondrial membrane, but newer findings show that this was incorrect.
