Catalysis of the reaction: a very long-chain fatty acyl-CoA + NADPH + H+ = a very long-chain primary alcohol + NADP+ + CoA. A very long-chain fatty acid has an aliphatic tail containing more than 22 carbons. Source: PMID:16980563
