Definition
Lateral growth of a plant axis (shoot axis or root) that is an increase in thickness resulting from formation of tissue from a secondary thickening meristem. Source: JSTOR:4354165, PO:0025004, PO:0025414
Comment
Occurs in shoot axes in some monocotyledons such as Dracaena, and rarely in roots of monocotyledons. Distinct from primary thickening, because it is distant from and generally discontinuous with the apical meristem.
