GO:0140036
Name
ubiquitin-modified protein reader activity
Ontology
molecular_function
Synonyms
ubiquitin-dependent protein binding
Alternate IDs
None
Definition
A molecular adaptor recognizes and binds a target protein containing a ubiquitination modification and brings the target protein into contact with another protein to allow those proteins to function in a coordinated way. Source: PMID:26060076
Comment
This term should only be used when the binding is shown to require ubiquitination of the target protein: the interaction needs to be tested with and without the PTM. The binding does not need to be at the site of ubiquitination. It may be that the ubiquitination causes a conformational change that allows binding of the protein to another region; this type of ubiquitination-dependent protein binding is valid for annotation to this term.
