trickle-up linguistics
A sociolinguistic model in which slang utilized in minority populations is assimilated into the "standard" language variant. For example, "shade" and "realness" being used exclusively in gay and transgender communities of color before being integrated into the gay white lexicon and then into the general "mainstream" lexicon.
