The term was proposed by Lars Vilhelmsen (pers. comm). Than the earlieast reference was found as Marlatt 1896.
Is there any earlier ref where the mesopostscutellum is used in the same sense than Marlatt 1896?
Is it questionable whether the mesopostscutellum of Hymenoptera is homologous or at least analogous with postscutellum in some Diptera. The mesopostscutellum is not homologous with the postscutellum sensu Gibson et al. 1998, which is the median area of the metascutellum bearing the metascutellar spine.
