In Chalcidoidea the mesopleuro-mesocoxal muscle originates dorsally of the transepisternal line, whereas in most other Hymenoptera the muscle originates ventrally of the line.

A line of lighter color, change of sculpture, or more distinct groove on the mesepisternum that extends from the anterolateral corner of the mesocoxa toward the procoxa and, when present, divides the mesepisternum into an upper mesepisternum and lower mesepisternum (see also sternopleural suture).
