The label "tergite" has been created for sclerites located on the tergum (Snodgrass 1935). Laterotergites sensu Snodgrass 1935 are well separated sclerites. In Hymenoptera, however, these labels have been used also for areas that are separated from each other by a "line" [mxid: 1079]. In numerous Hymenoptera taxa, however, the label laterotergite has been used of lateral areas, that are somehow delimited from the median part of the tergum.
